The 2014 Allday Photo Show, "Milk & Oysters," highlights some of the best work from our talented crop of photographers and contributors. Spotlighting each artist featured in our show, our focus is now on Matt Baron, a New York City born and raised filmmaker and photographer. Matt began working with Allday as a freelance editor, eventually turning his pursuits to his fulltime directorial debut, creating videos for H&M, Sephora and Cover Girl.
Having worked with namesake photographers such as Patrick Demarchelier, Craig McDean, and Mario Sorrenti, Matt’s work has reached a remarkable level of exposure. While he has been “focusing on filmmaking most of the time,” his image for our show provides a jarring and fascinating aerial view of the projects, emblematic of his recent obsession of taking pictures out of plane windows. He says, “there is something so exciting about seeing the world from a new perspective.”
Like much of his Instagram, the image is “structural, graphic and very dark,” encapsulating the silhouettes that comprise Matt’s aesthetic style. In between shooting fashion campaign films for Calvin Klein, and Frame Denim among others, Matt is “trying to focus on developing some of my short film ideas. I am hoping to find the time in the upcoming months to put these into motion.”
