His zine was a success at The Newsstand last year. We finally got to meet with photographer Blaise Cepis to ask him a few questions, and share some of his iPhone photos for the latest installment of our B-Sides series.

Tell us about your interest for extra limbs?

They say 2 is better than 1, so 3 or 4 must be better than 2, right? It’s not really an interest in extra limbs; it’s more an interest in creating stories that can be abstracted and are open to interpretation. It just so happens I prefer to shoot people so I try to find ways with their bodies to create those stories.

What are your current inspirations?

Right now I’m really digging Rupaul’s "Drag Race" (season 4 specifically), those ESPN 30 for 30 docs, John Waters’ new work, and the first track on Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s – "Psychedelic Pill."

How do you usually pair images (physical ones with still lifes etc.): any special ingredient or just a gut-feeling? Tell us about your interest for collages or collage and photography?

It’s always a case-by-case basis. Sometimes I’ll know that a piece I’m working on needs a little stepping stone, something that gets it from here to there. But most of the time all the pairings and layering happens pretty naturally and I don’t even realize where I’m going until I’m already there.

Any upcoming projects?

New stuff pops up everyday, and I’m just trying to go with the flow of it all. I am determined to finish a couple book projects this year. I’m working on one at the moment for a series of images called “All We Have Is Ice Water & Hot Sauce;" I’m really excited about that one. So far 2015 is alright.
