A new series, “In Quotes” focuses on photographers and their muses, where we find out more about each subject and their personal style that has a natural way of capturing our attention.
Our muse today is Heather Boo, native-New Yorker, and one half of the band BEAÛ, who released their latest single, “Karma” on Kitsuné Records. We caught up with Heather in the studio of photographer Jody Rogac to ask her a few questions.
Heather on... FAME?
All I really have to offer is my music, and that is something I'd love to share with the world. If recognition comes along, then I'll take it. If I can impact the world in a positive way — which the world clearly needs — then that's the only kind of fame I want to have.
Heather on... NEW YORK CITY?
New York City is my home, and I can't feel the way I feel here anywhere else. It has given me the will power to travel because so many different kinds of people live here, and has proved that anything is possible.
Heather on... HER LOOK?
If I can impact the world in a positive way — which the world clearly needs — then that's the only kind of fame I want to have.
Heather on... GIRLFRIENDS?
Assuming this relates to my girl mates, I would say holy shit, New York City girls are freaking nuts! The biggest part of having girlfriends born and raised here is that theres a mutual sense of pride we all share in having grown up here. Amongst us all there is also a great acceptance of inner struggle, because we all know life is rough, even if you grew up in a townhouse in some upscale neighborhood. No matter how good you have it, there is always some problem or life struggle. Just to name one woman in my life who is truly amazing would be Emma Jenney, my partner in crime in BEAÛ, not sure where would I be in my music career without her. She is one of my biggest motivators.
Heather on... HEROES?
My mom, Claudia Schwalb. Most people think my mom is pretty eccentric and out there, and I agree that she is, but she’s a damn good mother as well. Since I was born, she has painted at least 20,000 paintings, and to this day she still paints. She gave me life, and I owe everything to her.
Heather on... ROMANCE?
Romance is my favorite kind of vacation. Taking a shower with your lover and then having the hot water go cold is romantic to me. Seeing the little moments in life with your loved one is romantic. As long as you have an imagination, romance is endless. I think love can't exist without romance and vise versa.
Heather on... THE INTERNET?
I wouldn't waste much time on it... theres a whole world out there.
