A master of Cartier-Bresson’s Decisive Moment, Elliott Erwitt is best known for his candid photographs, using irony and humor in his portrayals of everyday life. In the 1950’s he served as a photography assistant in the United States Army where he met Robert Capa and Roy Stryker. Shortly after joining Magnum Photography Collective in 1953, Erwitt took to the streets, and began a fruitful study of New York City. Since joining the collective, he has published over twenty books, has been featured in publications worldwide and has exhibited in the Smithsonian, the MoMA, Kunsthaus and The Art Institute of Chicago.
