52: The Search for the Loneliest Whale is a cinematic quest to find the “52 Hertz Whale,” whom some suggest, has spent its entire life in solitude, calling out at a frequency that no other whale can understand. With the help of the marine biologist and bio-acousticians we will embark on an engrossing journey to explore what this whale’s lonely plight can teach us about our changing relationship with the oceans, and to each other.

JOSHUA ZEMAN, DIRECTOR

Joshua Zeman has been creating independent films for over 10 years. His directorial debut, the critically acclaimed horror documentary Cropsey, premiered at NYC’s IFC Center and went on to play dozens of cities across the U.S. The film, called “one of the year’s best documentaries” and “one of the scariest films of the year,” was a critic’s pick with The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Variety, Roger Ebert and numerous other outlets. As a producer/co-producer, some of Zeman’s past credits include The Station Agent, Mysterious Skin, The Hawk is Dying, Choking Man, Against The Current, and most recently Ceremony, starring Uma Thurman and released by Magnolia Pictures. Zeman has also served on the selection committee of the IFP West Screenplay Competition, Hamptons Screenwriting Lab, McKnight Screenplay Fellowship, and Sundance Screenwriting Labs.

He has since produced three more documentaries: Teenage Paparazzo, Don’t Quit Your Daydream, and How To Make Money Selling Drugs.  In 2007, Adrian teamed up with producer Peter Glatzer and sustainability expert Lauren Gropper to develop the sustainable lifestyle television series Alter-Eco, and later launched SHFT.com, whose mission is to convey a sustainable approach to the way we live through video, design, art and culture. Continuing his mission of sustainability, Adrian has since become an ambassador for Oceana, the largest international ocean conservation and advocacy organization in the world.

52: The Search for the Loneliest Whale was successfully funded, with 3,833 backers pledging $405,937 to help make this project a reality. It was a huge success, and we can only thank our community for that. Every single dollar raised will go directly to the voyage setting sail off the coast of Southern California, this Fall. Josh and Adrian, along with Lucy and the rest of the Allday team are hard at work bringing this film to life, and to you.

In the meantime, the world of Lonely Whale is ever growing and evolving, and we don't want you to miss out. We have some fun and progressive opportunities coming up in the near future, building on the amazing relationships created during our Kickstarer, so stay in touch! You won't want to miss out.
